June 2, Colville to Lake Pend Oreille, Washinton, 59 miles

Today was a relief not to have to climb another mountain pass. That said there was a not insignificant amount of climbing.

I finished the day at a campground on the Priest River which just happened to be hosting an annual bass fishing contest. The locals here seem to be obsessed with fishing and hunting. There also seems to be a requirement for every participant to own as large a mobile home (RV) as is humanly possible.

Even the road signs with pictures of deer (to warn of animals on the road) have actual bullet holes around the various parts of the body.

I personally fail to see how dangling a worm on the end of a nylon cord with the intention of fooling a fish can be seen as sport. But they seemed like really friendly people all in all. Albeit slightly simple.
